Does a single custom field prevent me from registering a lead with the same information?

When you create a custom field , you can choose whether it is a single value field and thus prevent other leads from being entered with the same information:

This option can be useful when you have well-defined processes for populating data, or when it comes from external sources with unique IDs.

However, it is important to point out that duplicate filling will only be restricted if the field is filled in exactly the same way twice. This means that if you use this field as text, for example, the writing needs to be exactly the same. Shall we see an example?

I have a field called External ID, and it is an alphanumeric code. If I register "1dois3" in a lead, and try to register or edit this field with the same text in the other lead, the system will point out that it needs to be a different value:

But if I add a space between the information, the system allows me to keep the data:

The padding format and maximum number of characters help reduce the chances of this scenario happening.

Therefore, we do not recommend that this type of field be used to register addresses, for example, because if an address is registered complete with zip code, it will be possible to register the same address without the zip code.
